What makes you the ideal candidate?
I consistently go above and beyond, embodying the mindset that the sky is never the limit. As Big Sean says, “Whoever told me the sky is the limit is lookin’ dumb, ‘cause I’m [27], and I’m moonwalkin’ on the sun.” I bring a sharp wit and the ability to seamlessly adapt to various brand identities and tones. Highly organized and an efficient team player, I’m committed to contributing impactful ideas across PR, writing, event management, and more. Wearing many hats is second nature to me, as I’ve consistently demonstrated my diverse skill set in previous roles. Above all, I bring a fresh perspective rooted in cultural diversity—and I love that for me!
How did you get into copywriting?
I discovered a passion for content creation while earning my Bachelor's degree. Throughout my undergrad years, I completed several internships that allowed me to delve into social media analytics, explore art direction, collaborate with diverse clients, and gain hands-on experience in various aspects of the field.
Can you tell me about a time in which you’ve experienced growth?
As a versatile writer with over five years of experience in professional brand writing, I’ve developed compelling content and contributed to email and social media strategies. My determination to work with top-tier brands drove me to step out of my comfort zone, reaching out and pursuing opportunities in unconventional ways, including sliding into DMs. Despite the initial discomfort, my persistence paid off when I secured a role as an email marketer for Tailored Beauty.
Can you share a little more about your background?
My recent roles have allowed me to work with clients I’ve long admired, including non-profits like Share 4 Life and Dinner Table Documentary, as well as brands such as Tailored Beauty, Cocotique, Cookie’s Kids, IMAX, and Totino's. Each experience has expanded my writing skills, from crafting social and email copy to creating in-store ads, commercials, and more. I've also had the incredible opportunity to publish articles in outlets like Her Campus, The Times Herald-Record, Hudson Valley Magazine, and Westchester Magazine.
Where do you gain inspiration?
When brainstorming, I draw heavily on my identity and personal voice, recognizing that Black culture significantly influences the advertising industry, even as our community remains underrepresented. My experiences as a Black woman, a Jamaican, a 90s Hip-Hop and R&B enthusiast, a New York native, and a traveler immersed in diverse cultures shape the lens through which I view the world. I keep a running list of ideas in my notes called "Ideas to Create as a Copywriter Before I Retire," and I often draw from these concepts, aiming to bring many of them to life.
Where do you see yourself 5-10 years from now?
In addition to envisioning myself on TV and movie screens, I am excited about the prospect of becoming a creative director for a range of brands. My enthusiasm for consumer engagement drives me to generate innovative ideas for installations, activations, and more. I also aspire to share my spoken word performances at prestigious open mic events across the nation. Looking further ahead, I dream of raising my future children in Jamaica and growing fruits and vegetables together. For now, I am thriving in my role as a Junior Copywriter at Barkley (OKRP) and am deeply grateful for the opportunity they've given me.
